Hmm... I was in a different place in the 80s. I was a hairdresser. At least half my co-workers were gay or bi, with one or two transsexual people in the mix. It made for a subversive and fun workplace. Then AIDS came, and it was devastating. We had to take care of each other. The fight for the right to legally couple with loved ones, share employment benefits, adopt children... were worthy fights. This was when Pride parades were about Pride and celebration, and not corporate advertising, or straight folks standing around in the way...

If those of us who are not gay/lesbian DID love and accept homosexual people more readily, especially of young people who are exploring their selves, we might have a lot less confusion and unhappiness and all the self-doubting/loathing in young people that we do now.

A good piece here, Walter.
