I think I was at 4 or 5 before having one accepted! It took awhile to “feel” what it is they might want. I do think they are being truthful when they say they turn down a lot of good stories. Note how in my post I explain re-submitting pieces. If you think they are strong, then you might want to do just that! Or re-write and re-sub.
