Part of the problem is the lack of history being shared properly in education. Canadian kids are growing up with no idea of what the country is about. History creates a foundation for critical thinking. And the States is all we know (if we don't make an effort otherwise) in terms of TV and film.

Back in the day, Flora McDonald blew her political career fighting for more Canadian-owned cinemas, and wanted to VERY SMALL % of films to be shown to be Canadian--as they did in Australia, where they ended up with an incredible and deserved rep for great film... but Jack-what'-his-face rolled up from the US of A and barked at Trudeau the First who caved... and here we are... Ugh.
