I started writing on Medium in the spring of 2020. In the fall, I published my first piece with the wonderful publication we all now mourn. This was a story I’d written for hopes with Modern Love. But was thrilled when PSILY accepted it. It’s about a time post-caregiving and loss for me, a time of venturing out into world on my own. On your own, the world can be very different. I am the “girl who needed to dance.”

All through my life, I have been blessed with ageing female mentors — here, the story of those of my late teens and early 20s.

A story about how it does “take a village” — when the elders in a place take on real roles in young people’s lives.

And the most important piece in a romantic relationship — what is it?

Ode to my father’s cousin Hilda — an amazing woman who pointed the way, just in how she lived.
