You've hit on everything that's just ugly about our system of "learning:" the "enduring" piece. Ugh. The misery instead of the joy.

Drop-outs and ex-homeschoolers tend to enjoy post-secondary more, find deeper value in it; I was the former for a decade before entering a classroom again.
